Our programs provide opportunities for any player to improve their game.
Because there is so much to learn, we offer a variety of programs to start you on the right skate.
The CIH Academy will offer a number of development programs throughout the year. These programs are designed to improve the player’s abilities, confidence and their level of enjoyment in hockey. Participants in our weekly sessions will receive high-quality coaching with low staff to student ratio during 1 hour of on-ice instruction every week for 6 consecutive sessions.
The CIHA is proud to welcome back Francis Wathier as the head instructor for our Weekly Skills Sessions (Intro to Hockey/Hockey Fundamentals and Power Skating and Puck Skills).
Francis, former Dallas Stars Player, is currently the Gatineau Olympiques assistant coach, as well as the CIH Academy Power Skating and Defensive Specialty Coach.
We will now also be offering Goaltender sessions in partnership with Kinetic Goalie.
See below for descriptions and dates for all our weekly skills programs.
The Hockey Fundamentals program is designed for players who are new to the game of hockey as well as first-year house league players. This program improves overall skills, teaching proper technique in power skating, puck control, passing and receiving. The skills introduced allow players to improve their game or provide them with the confidence to join a league. All drills are designed to challenge players in a positive environment.
POWERSKATING & HOCKEY SKILL
Power Skating & Hockey Skills gives players extra practice time with an emphasis on individual skill development. This program will focus equal parts on power skating and on essential hockey skills including puck control, shooting, passing and receiving. Lessons are taught in an upbeat and encouraging manner allowing participants to foster their gameplay in a positive environment.
LEARN TO SKATE/INTRO TO HOCKEY
Designed for aspiring young hockey players this program focuses on the fundamental skills of skating and explain the game of hockey in simplest terms. Age and skill appropriate drills focus on power skating, puck handling, passing and receiving. Participants should be able to skate forward, fall down, and get up without assistance. Full hockey equipment is required.
Goaltender Sessions by Kinetic Goalie
These sessions work on developing a goaltender’s overall ability and technique by improving their balance, positioning and lateral mobility. Goalies will enhance their performance in the net as they focus on angles, rebound control, playing the puck as well as practice defending against breakaways and rush attacks.
Our goalie camp is designed to maximize learning potential in young goalies of ANY caliber, from beginner to advanced. No matter if they are strapping on the pads for the first time, or are playing elite level hockey, all of our participants will benefit from specialized and skill level geared instruction.
Our facilitator, Eric Salvail, brings with him over 15 years of experience in goaltender development, including over 10 years alongside renowned goaltender coach François Allaire; where Eric had the opportunity to train goaltenders of all ages and levels across Canada, the United States and Europe.
